Summer-Fall Newsletter 2013

Hello Readers!

There is so much to share with you!  I’m combining summer and fall because I got behind with writing demands and meeting contract deadlines.  I hope you will forgive me.

Let’s start with THE LONER,  HQN, which has just come out.  This is part of the Wyoming Series of books.  I love Wyoming’ natural beauty and wildness.  It is the home to two national parks:  The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone.  Most of you know I was in the military and I am a vet.  I was in the US Navy, so naturally, SEALs are a part of my world too, by the fact they are Navy, also. I waited a long time to write about SEALs because I wanted to get it right.  I’m well known in the industry for my research before I write a book.

The Loner is about a former SEAL who comes home to Wyoming, wounded and with PTSD.  He has a lot of problems returning to society.  But it is Sheriff’s Deputy Shelby Kincaid, who has lost a military brother to PTSD and suicide, who comes to his aid.

HIGH COUNTRY REBEL, HQN, September, 2014, the next in the Wyoming series, is about Talon Holt, a former SEAL who is coming home to take care of his ill mother.   He carries heavy loads and loss.  Hoping for a fresh start as a wrangler, Talon grew up in the area.  His mother lost the family ranch due to her high medical bills.  Now, he wants to hire himself out and try to give his mother a stability.  Only, a freak blizzard in late May over comes himself and his combat assault dog, Zeke, who was also wounded in Afghanistan.  If not for the unexpected help from Cat Edwin, a firefighter-paramedic, they would have died out in the storm.  Of all the things Talon faced, he did not expect to fall in love.  And trust doesn’t come easy to Cat, who has a troubled past and a violent ex.

For those of you who have read earlier Wyoming Series, I have two delightful matriarch’s in the Jackson Hole Valley.  If you loved Miss Gus, owner of the Bar H (THE WRANGLER, HQN, July 2012), she is back.  And so is Val and Griff McPherson, who work the ranch, trying to get it back on its feet.  Zeke, a Belgian Malinois, has been Talon’s guardian and companion for years as he deployed again and again to Afghanistan.  Like Talon, the heroic dog has been wounded and released from the Navy, seeking a new life.  If you love dogs, you’re going to love Zeke.  He’s as much of a hero as his master.  But you’ll have to read their story to see why I say this.

DANGER CLOSE will be given away FREE at the Harlequin website from September 16 through October 15, 2013 at http://www.harlequin.com!   This is Book 1 of the Shadow Warrior’s series.  The book video trailer will be available on my website on September 1.  So, check it out!  I wrote this book originally as VALKYRIE in 1999.  In 2000, it won RT Review’s eBook of the Year Award.  It has become the foundation book for the new Shadow Warriors series.  Even if you have an original copy of Valkyrie, I’ve done some revisions and updating on it and you might want to download the FREE ebook!  Tell all your friends and family…this will probably be the only book of mine given away free!

EBOOKS galore in September!!   I had nine other books I’d written since 1981 under different pseudonyms, Beth Brookes (Second Chance at Love/Berkeley) and Eileen Nauman (Warner/Popular Library and Avon).  Harlequin bought all my back titles.  They have given them new covers and I’ve done a bit of updating and revising in all of them, but not much.  They will all be offered starting September 1, 2013 at http://www.harlequin.com.  Just click on their eBook tab up at the top to get them.  Some of them have had their names changed.  Below, I have put down the original book title and its new title.

If you have missed any of my earlier books, you will be able to get these and I’m thrilled to see them in eBooks!  They will all have my Lindsay McKenna pseudonym with the Harlequin release.  To learn more about them, click on my my eBook webpage to view all of the new covers. I hope I didn’t confuse any of you 🙂

Still haven’t had enough?  October brings out A CHRISTMAS PROPOSAL, HQN, Linda Lael Miller and Lindsay McKenna (reprint of Five Days of Christmas/Black Ops/Morgan’s Mercenaries), hardback and eBook, October, 2013.  I’m thrilled to be partnered with the wonderful Linda Lael Miller.  We will each have a Christmas themed novella in this hardback book.  If you missed Five Days of Christmas, which is a reprint from Silhouette Christmas Midnight Clear in 2000, then here’s your chance to get it!  The title of Linda’s novella is State Secret.  We hope you enjoy both of them!

There’s more!  November brings out COURSE OF ACTION, Harlequin Romantic Suspense with myself and my good writing friend, Merline Lovelace.  We put our heads together over a year ago and wanted to write six novellas (three a piece) on a group of young high school football players known as the Sidewinders.  They come from a small town in the Texas Panhandle.  They have played together, been best of friends and when they graduated, they all went down to the town’s military recruiter and signed up for various branches.  Each of them ended up in Black Ops. The first book has two novellas (35,000 long for each).  My novella is OUT OF HARM’S WAY and the hero, Travis Cooper, is a Navy SEAL.  Merline’s is ANY TIME, ANY WHERE, her hero, Duke Carmichael, who is an Air Force combat controller.

It was delightful to work with Merline on our stand alone novellas, but having a nice cross over that these men, now operators, were still good friends and occasionally crossed one another’s paths on different missions.  We wanted to present all the different Black Ops groups:  Air Force Combat Controllers, US Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Marine Force Recon and Army Delta Force.  We thought our readers would love to hear about ALL the different shadow warrior groups within our brave military.   We truly hope you enjoy our stories that were created with YOU in mind.  Do let us know!

Phew, I think that’s enough good news for now.  Yes, I’ve been writing my butt off, no question.  But I have loved every minute of it and hope that you enjoy not only my Wyoming Series books, but the start of my new military romance, Shadow Warriors series as well.  I created the genre of the military romance back in 1983 and continue to support our heroic men and women in the military through their stories of bravery and courage.

I wish you a happy Summer of reading!  And Happy Thanksgiving when the coolness of Fall once more, descends upon us! Gobble, gobble 🙂

Warmly,
Lindsay
