AUTHOR COMMENT: Shadow and Light is book one of the Men of Courage series. I wanted to set this book at Camp Pendleton, the sprawling US Marine Corps base in Southern California. But I renamed it Camp Reed. In this story, Craig fell in love with Susan Evans while they were at the Naval Academy. His roommate, Steve, had pursued Susan and married her, much to Craig’s heartbreak. But now, he has a second chance because he finds out Susan has just been assigned to the Navy hospital at Camp Reed. Will she give him the time of day?
My husband was assigned to Camp Pendleton after coming home from Vietnam. I spent a year there on the base and was part of Special Services, teaching horseback riding to children. It was a lot of fun and during classes, I could throw a leg over a horse and take off into the desert hills of the mighty, sprawling Camp Pendleton. I loved that year, the freedom and the riding of horses.

As well as my many years of experience with horses. I enjoyed making Libby a riding instructor at Camp Reed (aka Camp Pendleton). And you’ll get to see the kind of pressures and stresses a Marine officer who is in command of many men, has to deal with and resolve. Only, no one was expecting that the massive desert base would become a way to take drugs from southern California to Northern California. And it will be up to Dan and Libby to stop it.
